The young Adolphus started his career with a stint in teaching with the then Bendel State Government, Nigeria from July 1980- 1982 and later as Accountant, Bendel/Edo State Government 1988 – 1992. Because of his passion for accountability and transparency, he joined the Office of the Auditor-General for the Federation in June 1992 as Audit Officer 1 and rose through the ranks to the position of Director of Audit on 1st January 2016. Chief Adolphus distinguished himself as an astute administrator and achiever in key positions of responsibilities he has held in the Office of the Auditor-General for the Federation.
He was appointed Auditor-General for the Federation by Muhammadu Buhari, President, of the Federal Republic of Nigeria following confirmation by the Senate on Wednesday, 17th February 2021 in accordance with the provision of Section 86(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) effective from 25th February 2021. He was elected Chairperson, of the African Union Board of External Auditors on 23rd February 2021 and, also, served as President of, the African Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions Working Group of Environmental Auditing (AFROSAI-WGEA). His Royal Majesty S.O.Ikhumhen I (JP), the Onojie of Ewatto Kingdom, and the great people of Ewatto honored the Auditor-General for the Federation as Chief Uaisiezor of Ewatto Kingdom on April 3rd, 2021, while the management of Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma on 28th October 2021 inducted Chief Adolphus to AAU@40 HALL OF FAME, He retired as Auditor-General for the Federation on the 7th September 2022 on the attainment of 30 years of pensionable service and the mandatory retirement age of 60 years. Dr. (Chief) Aghughu Adolphus A. is the Managing Consultant/CEO of Uaisiezor Resources Enterprises.
He has published numerous articles in reputable Journals and earned awards. Chief Adolphus is a Fellow of Certified National Accountants of Nigeria (FCNA); a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (FCTI), a Member of the Nigerian Economic Society (MNES), and a Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered). He has attended short courses in the fields of performance and environmental auditing at many international Institutes of repute where he bagged a Diploma in Performance Auditing (Dip. PA) among other honors. He has the requisite Practicing Certificate of ANAN.
He is happily married to Mrs. Aghughu Theresa Omonzele (JP). The union is blessed with children (3 Girls and 2 Boys). Chief Aghughu is a philanthropist and his hobbies include Gardening, Driving, and Reading.
